Manhattan: Truck Damaged Grate Before Collapse

A parked garbage truck weakened a sidewalk grate that later gave way under a woman who walked on it in May, Con Edison said yesterday. When the grate collapsed, the woman, Jessica Hinksmon, fell into a 10-foot-deep transformer vault beneath the sidewalk on 51st Street between the Avenue of the Americas and Seventh Avenue.
