The South Korean subsidiary of France’s Renault has been told to recall 68,037 cars due to problems with the fuel system, officials said Wednesday.
The ministry of construction and transportation said Renault Samsung Motors was told to recall 59,160 SM5 LPLi models and 8,877 SM5 Impression models.
The action was due to problems with the fuel system which could cause the engine to stop suddenly, said company spokesman Choi Min-Soo. It was the company’s largest recall since it was acquired by the French carmaker in 2000.
Renault Samsung sold 172,347 cars last year, up 7.4 percent from a year earlier. Domestic sales fell 1.4 percent to 117,376 while exports soared 33 percent to 54,971.
